How do you define "Medical Emergency"?
A medical emergency refers to: A serious medical condition
derived from an illness or injury, such that a person with common
knowledge of health and medicine could reasonably expect the absence
of immediate medical attention will result in severe threat to the
health or vital bodily functions of the individual, or in the case
of a pregnant woman, the health of the woman and/ or her unborn
child.
What is an Immediate Care Center?
An urgent care center is used for episodic care for patients
with sudden medical conditions that require treatment usually within
24 hours. Patients can be treated on a walk-in basis, without an
appointment. The WNY Immediate Care center is open 7 days a week;
Monday through Friday 10:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., 365 days a year. Patients
calling an HMO after-hours with urgent, but not emergency problems
are often referred to Immediate Treatment sites. When experiencing a
non-life threatening situation (but could lead to potentially
harmful outcome if not treated when immediate attention is
required), a patient can receive treatment at WNY Immediate Care
center rather then being admitted to an emergency room. Patient
needs to inform his/her Primary Care Physician of such visit and for
follow up care. If the patient is in a life-threatening situation,
please call 911 right away for care.
Do I need to make an appointment to visit WNY Immediate Care
Center?
No. You may walk into WNY Immediate Care Center when you need
prompt medical care for injuries or illness.
Who will provide my medical care?
WNY Immediate Care is staffed by board-certified, emergency
medicine physicians who are skilled in the treatment of
non-life-threatening injuries and illnesses. Our physicians and our
nurses are dedicated to providing excellent medical care in a
compassionate, respectful manner.
How much does an office visit cost?
Our fees vary depending on the level of services provided.
Generally our fees are approximately one-third of those charged by
emergency departments for similar procedures.
How long will the visit take?
Visit times vary depending on the number of patients at the center
and the severity of their injuries or illness. On the average,
however, total visit times are less than one hour.
